The cuddy top will be a foam composite like the sides and forward bulkhead. I scarfed two pieces of 1/4” Superply for the first layer and glued it down to the nailers in the side panels and to the bulkheads. There is a small shelf added for the pilot house jog that merges with the cuddy top. Then a 3/4 mahogany strip that was radiused for visual appeal runs the full perimeter. (see detail below). Two additional internal ribs were added across the top, one midway and the second will lie underneath the windshield. I then built a frame for a 22” Vetus hatch and screen that is inset into the top. This will allow a flat surface to merge with the arc of the top, both inside for the screen and topsides for the hatch. The ribs and trim pieces are the same thickness as the foam and will be attachment points for the top skin. When finished, the hatch will stand proud of the cuddy top slightly in the center to shed water. The forward position of the hatch is to allow anchor deployment and retrieval while standing inside the cuddy cabin.
